Want to find out what Rotary is all about?  Are you looking for something different but meaningful to do?  Come along to our Zoom meeting on Wednesday 30 September to find out.  REGISTER HERE: http://bit.ly/rotaryportlandbay
We will be showcasing our core activities locally in the Portland Area, along with the bigger picture of what Rotary is all about both nationally and internationally.  After this we will be breaking out into smaller rooms where you can ask Rotarians questions directly and hear about their Rotary Experience (it's different for everyone!).
The night is free. No commitment required.  It really is just a bit of a show and tell, so you can see if it is something that you might want to have a go at.    Rotary offers so much, that you can tailor your own experience to meet your own passions to make a bit of a difference in the world.
Our Rotary club jumped to provide assistance during the first lock down phase in March-April this year.
Rotarian Karen Malseed organised our roster to ensure drivers were available to do home deliveries, assisting our local supermarket with the surge in demand.
We assisted with IGA deliveries.  We feel proud of our efforts together while we joined with the Lions Club of Portland.  Over 94 volunteer hours were recorded by Rotarians making 75 deliveries to many grateful community members.
A donation of $1800 from IGA has been received as a gesture of their grateful thanks during difficult times.
Well!, What an amazing club meeting we just had tonight!. In celebrating Youth Month, we invited our past and current Rotary Youth Exchange Students to our Zoom meeting along with some of their parents.
We had sons and daughters from Australia (currently in France and Denmark), France, Brazil, Belgium and Denmark past RYE students join us. How wonderful it was. And it's something we wouldn't have thought to do so easily in pre-pandemic days
On Tuesday May 12th 2020 we sang “21 today, 21 today, we’ve got the key to the door (well we had a key but it didn’t fit the door!!!), never been 21 before….. That part was true!
With the #stayhome restrictions in place due to Covid-19 we had to get creative to find a way to celebrate our milestone. And celebrate we did.
Our resident cook baked cupcakes (thanks Brian), Helen helped I’m sure. Helen, Lynne and Bev delivered them to
members on the day of our party (thanks ladies).
Claire set up a Zoom meeting #party (she is a whizz…thanks Claire). Paul helped to put together a clip of birthday wishes sent to the club (very clever – thanks Paul).

Our club President for the year 2019-2020,  Bev McIlroy, has been a registered nurse for 55 years but she’s never worked through a pandemic like COVID-19.  Here's a bit about her journey at our local health service.

Portland District Health’s (PDH) assistant director of nursing and after-hours coordinator is relishing the challenge and says it has strengthened her belief in the importance of health workers.

“I’m glad I’m working when this once-in-a-lifetime event happened,” she said. “You can see all the changes that are going to happen as a result of this virus and from a healthcare perspective there will be some good positive changes.”

Ms McIlroy has been impressed with how PDH and health authorities across Australia have responded to the virus.
